WOODCUT ARTIST GILLYIN GATTO AT HAMMOND HALL IN SEPTEMBER
Woodcut artist Gillyin Gatto of Machias will be featured at Hammond Hall in Winter Harbor during the month of September, with a reception for the artist on Sunday Sept 17th from 3 to 5 PM.
Gatto has been carving and printing from wood and linoleum blocks for over forty years on her 50 acre homestead / tree farm. From her extensive body of work, Gatto will show monumental woodcut collages, along with original framed prints , both large and small. These works will focus on the themes of birds, sea life, dogs, cats, home birth and working people down east.
Gatto’s bold black and white work, with occasional dashes of color, that utilize the woodgrain to enhance her designs, will fill Hammond Hall with a feast for the eyes, and a feeling of total immersion into Down East Maine life.
