A showcase of short films featuring local young people that have turned their favorite books into blockbuster movies.
The Barn Arts Collective will work with local young people throughout the day to help them turn scenes from their favorite books into blockbuster short films. Professional theatre and film makers from Barn Arts will help the participants write, direct, and perform in adaptations of scenes from their favorite books. The evening will include the premiere of these short films as well as red carpet interviews with the young stars.
Reading Showtime! is a Barn Arts Collective program originally developed for the Southwest Harbor Public Library with children’s librarian Susan Plimpton and Mount Desert Island filmmaker Peter Logue. Since its inception in 2015, the program has been brought to several schools in the Downeast Maine region and over 100 short films have been created with local young people. Reading Showtime! is a celebration of books, stories, and performance that promotes literacy at any age.
