Since its founding in the 1940s, the Farnsworth Art Museum’s collection has focused on American art with a strong emphasis on art related to Maine. This highlights tour will provide an overview of the Farnsworth’s collection, following a chronological progression of its earliest art through the second half of the twentieth century. It will feature works by well-known artists like Fitz Henry Lane, Rockwell Kent, and Andrew Wyeth, as well as lesser known artists. Led by Denise Mitchell, the Farnsworth’s manager of school and docent programs, the tour will include many of her personal favorites.
