The Schoodic Summer Chorus is a multi-generational a cappella community chorus devoted to nurturing musicianship and community, in residence at Hammond Hall in Winter Harbor, Maine and sponsored by Schoodic Arts for All. Its members share a passion for singing beautiful, unusual, and challenging music. Directed by singer and composer Anna Dembska, the chorus welcomes anyone who loves to sing.
After 20 years of amazing summers with the chorus, this will be Anna’s final year of directing, and we’re planning on a grand finale. This year’s program, Turn the World Around: Songs of Transformation and the Transforming Power of Music, will include old favorites and new surprises from many styles, places, and times.
Rehearsals are in Hammond Hall in Winter Harbor, 4-6:30 pm.
Tuesdays, May 24–August 9
Thursday, August 4 (if needed)
Masks will be required.
Sometimes we have sectionals (sopranos, altos, tenors, or basses rehearsing without the other parts) for a half hour before or after a rehearsal.
To make sure everyone is prepared to perform the music together, we ask that singers commit to missing no more than 2 rehearsals. If you have a scheduling problem but really want to sing with us, please contact Anna.
Wednesday, August 10, 6 pm, Schoodic Arts Festival. Festival performances this year will be at Hammond Hall.
We may also give 1 or 2 other performances in August in other Downeast locations—dates and venues TBD by chorus members.
The Schoodic Summer Chorus is supported by the Bill Thayer Scholarship Fund, which will cover expenses for those who can’t afford the suggested membership fee.
Children with parents are also welcome to join- for more information about youth rates or scholarships, please contact email@example.com
(Children as young as 10 have sung with the chorus, but usually 12 seems a good age to begin. If you wonder if your child will be a good fit for the chorus, please contact Anna.)
