Deborah Lothrop

Painting and Eurythmy Instructor

Deborah Lothrop has pursued the arts throughout her lifetime. No matter what other interest she might follow, she invariably finds herself drawing and painting. From 1969 – 1972, she attended RISD, going on to spend a year in Boston designing department store window display, submitting her portfolio in hopes of illustration work. She left to travel through Mexico and the Caribbean, painting and drawing and selling her work. By 1982, she had moved to New York where she studied botanical illustration. She became interested in alternative education approaches and finished undergraduate studies, earning a BS Ed. In 1999, she was able to move to Maine and found work in local public and private schools, teaching children from K – 12 grade. She also began training as a painting therapist, studying in the US, Netherlands, and Switzerland. For five years, she worked with children and the elderly, again in New York, as an artist-in-residence in a therapeutic setting while also offering painting classes to adults. Now, Ms Lothrop concentrates on her own work which she sells in a number of local galleries as well as from her studio in Brooklin. She has painted murals in Boston, Palm Beach Fla, and Newport RI, as well as with several classrooms-full of children.
