The Schoodic Summer Chorus

a program of Schoodic Arts for All

The Schoodic Summer Chorus is a multi-generational a cappella community chorus devoted to nurturing musicianship and community, in residence at Hammond Hall in Winter Harbor, Maine and sponsored by Schoodic Arts for All. Its members share a passion for singing beautiful and unusual music. Directed by singer and composer Anna Dembska, the chorus welcomes anyone who loves to sing.

2021 season: an outdoor chorus

2021 is the chorus’s 20th season! Like most choruses, our 2020 season was cancelled, so we are especially excited to be singing together again this summer.

Due to the pandemic, we’ll be rehearsing outdoors this year, at least until it’s safe to rehearse indoors for an extended period (right now, according to Maine CDC, indoor rehearsals should be limited to a half hour). We’ll be following Maine CDC protocols as they evolve, which will likely require masks and distancing, at least for a while.

Rehearsals are outdoors, at or near Hammond Hall in Winter Harbor, 4-6:30 pm.
Tuesdays, May 25–July 27
Thursday, July 29
Sunday, August 1

We may add one or two extra rehearsals toward the end if we need more practice. There may also be some sectionals from 6:30–7 pm on Tuesdays. This means each section (soprano, alto, tenor, and bass) would stay until 7pm once or twice, if possible and if needed.

To make sure everyone is prepared to perform the music together, we ask that singers commit to missing no more than 2 rehearsals. If you have a scheduling problem but really want to sing with us, please contact Anna through the form linked HERE.

Monday, August 2, 6 pm, Schoodic Arts Festival. Festival performances this year will be at the Prospect Harbor Town Park.

We will also probably give 1 or 2 other performances in August in other Downeast locations—dates and venues TBD by chorus members.

The Schoodic Summer Chorus is primarily supported by membership dues, but we want everyone who wants to sing to be able to join us, so scholarships are available for all who need them.

Membership fee:
adults: $120
students: $60
families: $120 for 1 parent/adult & child; additional children $30 each
(Children as young as 10 have sung with the chorus, but usually 12 seems a good age to begin. If you wonder if your child will be a good fit for the chorus, please contact Anna HERE.)
