In this 4-hour class, students will have the opportunity to explore the art of capturing values and masses in outdoor settings. Rather than focusing on specific objects, the emphasis will be on developing an understanding of light and shadow and translating that onto the paper. This is a great preparation for learning to paint landscapes in any medium. Using charcoal as the primary medium, students will learn techniques for effectively representing tonal values and capturing the essence of the scene.
